What is Bodhi?
In Buddhism, “Bodhi” means “awakening” or “enlightenment.” It signifies a profound insight into the true nature of reality, achieved by transcending ignorance and detaching from suffering.
Bodhi is the ultimate goal of Buddhist practice—a state of wisdom and compassion that frees an individual from the cycle of samsara (birth, death, and rebirth).
The concept is rooted in the Buddha’s journey to enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, where he realized the path to liberation. Bodhi inspires Buddhists to cultivate inner clarity and compassion, guiding them toward lasting peace and freedom from suffering.
About Us
$BODHI is presented by the Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama, established in 2015 by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, Tenzin Gyatso, under Article 80 and following provisions of the Swiss Civil Code. Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, the foundation was created to uphold and support the tradition and role of the Dalai Lama, particularly in relation to his religious and spiritual responsibilities.
